I've been fascinated with RX7s since my introduction to Japanese sports cars that came with my mr2 ownership circa 1999. Despite my desire to own a RX7, my income level (student) and lack of automotive know-how made me wary enough to keep these cars at arms length. Fast forward 7 years, to my last semesters of college, and I start to see videos of RX7's with V8 engine swaps. I began to research the swap and 3 years later I was ready to take the plunge.
This project ended up representing 6 years of work / over 1000 of my personal hours in labor/ research. It was something I always took my time with and never traded sub-par work or parts in exchange for a quicker turn-around. The car was built to be a 400whp daily driver that could take abuse day in and day out and still get 29mpg on the highway. This was most certainly not the fastest and best LS swapped FD out there, but I will say it turned out to be a very well sorted swap that exhibited seamless integration at factory levels. The type of documentation that was generated during this build was hard to beat at the time. While project cars usually come with a lot of unknowns, this project ended up finishing with 1000’s of pictures, a fully re-designed / documented wiring diagram, and receipts that document every nut and bolt used to build this monster.
The original documentation for the build was hosted on norotors. As of re-working this website in 2022, the build is still accessible and still a fun way to view the build over 60+ pages of documentation. However, I've always dreamed of a more organized layout of the build, so that's what I've brought to this website and the following index. *Note - While organized, a lot of my material is still carbon copied from my original posts @ norotors so tenses and formality will swing wildly from time to time :D
