Like I mentioned in the last update; resealing the upper oil pan was not in my original plan and is one of the more major diversions of this rebuild.
What makes the UOP such a pain to do is because it's rearmost portion serves as the bottom 1/3rd of what the transmission mounts to. If you do this work with the engine in the car removing the transmission means you only have the front two engine mounts supporting the engine because the transmission connects to the 3rd mount in the transmission tunnel. Losing the transmission + mount means the engine wants to drop in the back at the firewall, so you have to figure out a way to float that portion of the engine (front the top) while you figure out how to unbolt everything else from the bottom of the engine to get this UOP removed / resealed. It's such a major pain in the butt I've only seen it done a handful of times.
Out of the car this may seem simpler. I mean, I already have the transmission removed right? Well, yes, but the engine stand is using the transmission mounts to suspend the engine...
That means, to do the UOP out of the car, you basically have to do it dangling from an engine crane... So, that's what I did.
