Seats, Projector, AV Rack - 08/15/2017

Gotta love these 5-6 month update droughts :D

  • Finished painting the back half of the room
  • Got the 4seating Sonomas installed and wired in.
  • Installed my in-walls. *edit - Oh yeah, you may notice they're color matched to my walls ;) It's not something I documented but I managed to do it by thinning down my interior wall paint with windex until it was the viscosity of ~milk and shot it with an automotive paint gun. Came out better than I could have dreamed.
  • Hung the projector. I know this is a no no, but I swear, I haven't even powered it up yet

Very happy with the chosen location of the projector so far. With only 7ft to the ceiling from the top of the riser, the projector does get down into the 6ft area after mounting. I worried about this during planning, but did gamble on a solution before settling on the mounting spot. The hypothesis being that if the projector is in the right spot above the seating, you'll never hit it with your head under normal circumstances because you'll be getting in and out of the seat, and the projector is completely clear of the walking path. I'm 6'1 and could definitely hit the projector with my head if it was just out in the middle of the walking path, but as it is, I've tried to get close to it getting in and out of the seating and have been unsuccessful at even getting within 2ft of it :D

So, that pretty much takes care of the back half. Progress has started to crawl when it comes to the AV cabinet build.

I believe I'm on my way to executing the plan as anticipated, but you'll notice below that there are some small deviations. Specifically, I've built out to accommodate the chosen rack's extra depth, and I've added a separating wall between the speaker pocket and the rack space. The build out serves two purposes. 1. I needed the space for the rack. 2. It serves as a frame for the future rear door. Why have a door? That plays into the purpose for the speaker pocket divider. With the divider and the door, the rack will be thermally ~isolated from the rest of the room. It all comes down to managing the temp of the rack without spilling heat into the rest of the room. It may also cut down on the rack's noise in the theater.
