Before I killed the car in 2020, I had been noticing that my headlights would constantly adjust their height, even in standstill traffic. I would pull up to a stoplight and see the lights just going up and down on the bumper of the car in front of me.
After some digging I found that the headlight adjustment system calculates its aim based on potentiometers attached to front and rear steering knuckles that can figure out if the car is level, if you're going up a hill, down a hill, or anything in-between and adjusts the aim of the headlight.
My theory is that one or both of these potentiometers has a dead spot / whatever that's causing bad calculations and that's what causing the erratic aiming.
Without anything else to go on, that's what I'm replacing the potentiometers.
