The Good Years - Seats & Seals - 07/03/2017

Continuing on with the common problem theme, I fixed a couple more things that most e39 users have to face at some point. #1 - Seat twist. #2 - Gunky engine

#1 The e39 sport seats (I don't know if its the same in the comfort seats) use motors + cables to actuate movement in the seats. A common issue is that a motor loses its grip on the cable housings and the whole cable moves away from the motor which causes it to disengage. One of the more noticeable symptoms that something has gone wrong deals with the seat tilt function. The tilt function uses two motors to move each side of the seat-back. forward or backward. When one motor has a problem and its cable disengages, only one side of the seat-back moves causing the "twist." My driver's seat was twisting so broke both seats down and replaced all the cables. Unfortunately I only a couple of random pics showing this process.

#2 My valve covers + timing covers were weeping oil so I decided to do a mini tear down and replace all the seals I could get to.

I also did a little engine bay cleanup and shoot when I finished up :)
