So. I was looking for a 02-03 540i msport 6 speed, owned below the salt belt, between 100-200k miles, Sterling Gray Metallic, black leather interior with sport seats, little to no aftermarket mods. After a few months of searching the stars aligned and I found what I was looking for on craigslist:

2002 BMW 540i M for sale. This E39 is very clean and has always been maintained at every service interval. Always been serviced at Benz Tech in Elkhart IN by a Mercedes, Bmw, and Porsche master mechanic. I have a the service records since I have owned it, which has been apox. 3yrs. The 4.4 V8 runs great, there are no weird noises or ticks. Mobile 1 synthetic has always been used since I've had it. This 540i is the M sports edition which includes the rare six speed MANUAL trans, sports suspension( sits a little bit lower then other E39s), bucket sport seats, and Msports steering wheel. Many more options. The pictures show how clean this car is inside and out! Vehicle has only seen the snow once for aprox. a month or so. During the winter it was always stored in the garage with cover on it after its bath and wax. I bought this vehicle from a local person that had the car shipped from California. I paid for the Carfax when I purchased it and it proved that the car had never left Cali since brand new. There is one small issue with the sunroof, as it only tilts. I bought the car with the sunroof not working, which was not a huge deal for me. It became a huge deal when it began to break even more and both lifters broke into pieces on each side. I had no choice to repair it myself because I was not about to pay up to 1500 to fix it. I salvaged a working sunroof out of another 540 and swapped it into mine. When I got it in I noticed it wouldnt roll down but only tilts. I decided to let it be because I did not want to mess with is anymore. This was a very time extensive project. I am a BMW enthusiast and always took great care of this vehicle, I just need to make room in the garage for a new toy. Please call or text me if you have any questions or if you would like more pics( I have plenty). This car has will need brakes soon. The price is OBO. I am open to offers but I know what this car is worth and will not respond to lowballers! No calls after 10 please text me anytime. Thanks for looking!!
This was predominantly a CA car which was great but I wanted to determine how the car had spent its time in Indiana before moving forward. I spoke with the owner who was adamant that the car had spent almost no time in the salt & snow, opting instead to garage the car during the winters. After confirming the car's history in CA with carfax, I resumed my conversations with the owner. During our talks the owner disclosed that the windshield had a small crack in it. Along with the fact that the car only came with one non-remote key I was able to negotiate another $500 off the asking price. Soon after, I'd booked a flight to MDW to pick up the car.
